Unidentified US Navy commander after mine countermeasures demonstration during Fleet Week 2014Shark Week is an annual week long programming block on Discovery Channel which features Shark based programming. It originally premiered on July 17, 1988. Held annually, normally in July or August, Shark Week was originally developed to raise awareness and respect for sharks. It is the longest-running cable television programming event in history.

The newscasts are produced by Raycom Media, which owns KGMB and KHNL and operates KFVE (owned by MCG Capital Corporation) through a shared services agreement. It also has a partnership with KBFD, which uses KGMB’s taped on the field stories during KBFD’s 11 p.m Korean-language newscast with Korean language subtitles.

Hurricane Iniki ChickensThe Hawaii Hurricanes were a proposed basketball team intended to be based in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. They were scheduled to begin play in the new American Basketball Association (ABA) in 2007, but the team was confiscated by the league before the season due to suspicions of bad business practices on the part of its owner. The franchise tried to reorganize under new ownership as the Pacific Rim Rockers, but was unable to overcome its financial difficulties, and folded before ever playing a game.

Ebola Outbreak 2014

2014 calendarAn epidemic of the Ebola virus disease is ongoing in some West African countries. The outbreak first began in Guinea in March 2014. Since its initial outbreak, the virus has spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. The outbreak is the most severe in recorded history in regard to both the number of human cases and fatalities. A suspected 1603 cases with 887 deaths have been reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) as of 1 August 2014[update], of which 1009 cases and 574 deaths have been laboratory confirmed to be Ebola. Various organizations, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and the European Commission have donated funds and mobilized personnel to help counter the outbreak; charities including Médecins Sans Frontières, the Red Cross, and Samaritan’s Purse are also working in the area.
