Northern Gannet flying open wingsThe Northern Trust Open, is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, first played in 1926. Formerly known as the Nissan Open and originally known as the Los Angeles Open, it is played annually in February in Pacific Palisades, California. The tournament has been contested at the Riviera Country Club on a near-continuous basis since 1973. Northern Trust Corporation, based in Chicago, has been the title sponsor of the event since 2008, following a 21-year sponsorship by Nissan. Entertainer Glen Campbell was the celebrity host of the Los Angeles Open from 1971 to 1983.

It is located in Bloomington, Minnesota (a suburb of the Twin Cities), southeast of the junction of Interstate 494 and Minnesota State Highway 77, north of the Minnesota River and across the interstate from the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport. Opened in 1992, the mall receives over 40 million visitors annually, the most of any mall in the world. 80 percent of the visitors are from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, the Dakotas, Illinois, Ohio, and Canada. The Triple Five Group, owned by Canada’s Ghermezian family, owns and manages the Mall of America, as well as the West Edmonton Mall.

The ceremony, televised in the United States by ABC, will be produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan and directed by Hamish Hamilton. Actor Neil Patrick Harris is scheduled to host the ceremony for the first time.
