Megalodon (/ËmÉÉ¡ÉlÉdÉn/ MEG-É-lÉ-don; meaning “big tooth”, from Greek μÎÎ³Î±Ï (megas, “big”) and á½Î´Î¿Î½ (odon, from á½Î´Î¿ÏÏ, odous, “tooth”)) is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 28 to 1.5 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era (late Oligocene to early Pleistocene).
