The United States will compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from February 7 to 23, 2014. This is the first time a US Olympic team has competed in Russia. The United States and 64 western countries did not take part in the 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow due to the 1980 Olympic-boycott of the Soviet Union for their invasion of Afghanistan. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are not planning to attend the 2014 Winter Olympics.
