Audrey Hepburn

Free Comic Book Day

Free comic book illustrationFree Comic Book Day, taking place on the first Saturday of May, is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores. Retailer Joe Field of Flying Colors Comics in Concord, California brainstormed the event in his “Big Picture” column in the August 2001 issue of Comics & Games Retailer magazine. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 and is coordinated by the industry’s single large distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors.

Goodreads

Goodreads is a “social cataloging” website founded in December 2006 and launched in January 2007 by Otis Chandler, a software engineer and entrepreneur, and Elizabeth Chandler. The website allows individuals to freely search Goodreads’ extensive user-populated database of books, annotations, and reviews. Users can sign up and register books to generate library catalogs and reading lists. They can also create their own groups of book suggestions and discussions. In December 2007, the site had over 650,000 members and over 10,000,000 books had been added. As of July 2012, the site reported 10 million members, 20 million monthly visits, and 30 employees. On July 23, 2013, it was announced on their website that the user base had grown to 20 million members, doubling in close to 11 months. The website’s offices are in San Francisco.

Damian LillardDamian Lamonte Ollie Lillard (born July 15, 1990) is an American professional basketball point guard with the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was an honorable mention All-American in 2010. A 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) guard from Oakland, California, Lillard played collegiately at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He was selected in the first round with the sixth overall pick by Portland in the 2012 NBA Draft, and was unanimously named the 2012–13 NBA Rookie of the Year. In 2013-14 Lillard was named by coaches to the NBA All-Star team for the first time.
