Dan Fredinburg

Dan Fredinburg (September 8, 1981 – April 25, 2015) was a Google executive who died on 25 April 2015 of head injuries in an avalanche at Mount Everest’s South Base Camp triggered by the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Fredinburg was a product manager and head of privacy at Google X, and an advisor on Project Loon. He had also worked on YouTube and Google Maps. According to the Sunday, April 26, 2015 print edition of the Peoria Journal Star, he was involved in an effort to map other geological areas and formations on Earth, to accompany Google Earth’s street-level view of cities and towns and other populated areas, at a similar level of detail (among many others, the Great Barrier Reef, the floors of the oceans, and high and/or remote mountains and mountain ranges- including in the Himalayas, where he was killed).
