John Albert Kitzhaber (born March 5, 1947) is an American politician and former Governor of Oregon, from 2011 until his planned resignation on February 18, 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, Kitzhaber previously served as the 35th Governor for two terms (1995-2003). He also served in the Oregon House of Representatives (1979â81) and Oregon Senate (1983-93), including as Senate President (1985â93). He was also an emergency physician and has worked as a Health Care Administrator.
