The Counselor is a 2013 drama thriller film directed by Ridley Scott, from the first original film screenplay by Cormac McCarthy. The Counselor was released in the United States on October 25, 2013 by 20th Century Fox. The plot revolves around the troubled Juarez, Mexico / Texas border area and deals with themes of greed, life and death, and the primal instincts of humans and their consequences. The film has stirred controversy due to it’s use of decapitations, snuff films, and a device known as the Bolito. The film also features an infamous sex-scene involving Cameron Diaz and a car. Film critics had a divisive reaction to The Counselor, describing it as cold characters and hot air.
